Binghamton Senators News Release

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - When the reigning Calder Cup champion Hershey Bears came to town for a match against the Binghamton Senators, fans expected it to be a challenging match-up. What they didn't expect was to witness an 8-1 blowout of the B-Sens.

Binghamton struck first, as captain Denis Hamel snuck one past Hershey's Jason Bacashihua, top shelf, glove side at 2:51 of the first period.

The Bears were quick to answer though. At 5:54 of the period, Hershey tied the score as Alexandre Giroux netted his first goal of the season.

In the waning seconds of the second period, just as it looked as though both teams would leave for intermission knotted up at one, with a mere 27 seconds remaining Giroux managed to get the puck past the B-Sens Andy Chiodo giving the Bears the momentum shifting 2-1 lead. Gordon would earn the assist on the goal for his second point of the night.

The Bears carried that momentum well into the third period, scoring four unanswered goals for a commanding 6-1 lead over the B-Sens. Andrew Joudrey, Steve Pinizzotto, Darren Reid and Kyle Wilson all hit the net in the second period of play.

Coach Nachbaur swapped goaltenders in the third period, sitting Chiodo in favor of Brodeur, but Hershey kept the heat on, adding insurance with additional goals from Gordon and Wilson.

Gordon ended the night with three points (1 + 2), while six additional Bears players tallied at least two points in the match.

The B-Sens are back at it Monday afternoon at 1 p.m. in Bridgeport, where they face the Atlantic Division's Sound Tigers.
