San Antonio Rampage News Release
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The San Antonio Rampage put on a furious charge in the third period, but came up short as they fell 3-1 to the Houston Aeros at the AT&T Center on Saturday night before 5,181 fans.
The Aeros took advantage of a power play chance in the first period to score the only goal of the period. Houston forward Marco Rosa slipped a pass in front that forward Peter Olvecky redirected into the net low stick side on Rampage goalie Josh Tordjman at 11:20. The Aeros out shot the Rampage 17-10 in the frame.
Houston extended their lead in the second to 2-0 as forward Krys Kolanos snapped home a wrister from just inside the left circle at 3:48. Late in the period the Aeros looked to add to their lead, but Tordjman made a terrific reaching right pad save to stop forward Ryan Hamilton on a break away.
San Antonio got on the scoreboard early in the third period as forward Chad Kolarik ripped home a wrister from the circle low stick side on Aeros goalie Nolan Schaefer at 2:15. It was his seventh of the season tying him for the team lead. With 4:29 left in regulation Olvecky was awarded a penalty shot, but was stopped by Tordjman to keep it a one goal game. The Rampage pulled the goalie for the extra attacker, but the Aeros sealed the win as Kolanos scored his second of the night with the empty netter at 19:32.
FINAL SCORE Houston 3, San Antonio 1.
Tordjman stopped 32 of 34 shots in 58:48 and fell to 1-10-1. Schaefer turned aside 31 of 32 shots in 60 minutes and improved 6-7-0. The Rampage were 0-4 on the power play while Houston went 1-6. San Antonio was out shot 36-33.
The loss extends the Rampage's franchise record losing streak to 13 games and winless string to 17 (0-16-0-1). The Aeros broke a four game winless drought and evened their record at 9-9-1-1.
The Rampage host the Syracuse Crunch on Thursday night at the AT&T Center at 7 p.m. It is Dollar Hot Dog Night courtesy of Ticket 760 AM. For more info log onto www.sarampage.com
