Manitoba Moose News Release

Contrary to last night, the Moose outshot the Chops 29-18 but were unable to outscore their opponents and dropped their first home match-up in nine games to the visitors from Iowa, 4-3. Mario Bliznak, Michael Grabner and Pierre-Cedric Labrie were credited with the three Moose goals while goaltender Karl Goehring stopped 15 shots in front of 10,755 fans at the MTS Centre.

Making his second consecutive start for the Moose, Karl Goehring manned the home pipes opposite Jean-Phillipe Levasseur. Three minutes and three shots on Chops goaltender Levasseur gave the Moose their first goal of the game with an unassisted snipe by Mario Bliznak.

On their next shot, Michel Ouellet moved the puck from behind Iowa's net to Michael Grabner. Poised in front of the crease, Grabner netted his seventh of the season and put the Moose on top of the visitors, 2-0 at 5:32.

The Chops picked up the pace in the latter half of the first, and on the visitor's fifth shot of the game, Ryan Dingle fooled Goehring and netted his first of the season to tighten the gap, 2-1

With all players on their best behaviors, there were no special team debuts in the first period and the Moose lead the Chops in shots 11-6 and in goals 2-1 after 20 minutes of play.

At 6:14 of the second, Iowa right-winger Troy Bodie was dealt the game's first infraction and Manitoba's powerplay unit made its first appearance. The penalty expired before the Moose could break Levasseur for the third time and the teams went back to even strength.

Fresh off the powerplay, five-on-five hockey paid off for the visitors when Joakim Lindstrom went top shelf on Goehring to knot the game at two. The tie was short lived, however, as Pierre-Cedric Labrie snapped his third of the season to regain the lead for the Moose, 3-2.

At 13:13 the Chops earned the equalizer when Ryan Dingle cruised down the left side of the ice and put the puck over Goehring's blocker. After the goal, the Chops stationed themselves in the Moose zone for the remainder of the period and almost caught up in the shot department, 15-13.

With the game tied at three going into the third, tempers were high and Zack FitzGerald and Ryan Donally took a little aggression out on each other with a fist fight in the Moose zone. With FitzGerald landing on the ground first, both players were escorted to the box to serve five minute majors for fighting.

At 6:58 Trevor Ludwig was fined with a delay of game charge, putting the Chops on their first man-advantage of the night. With half of the penalty expired, the visitors capitalized on the opportunity and broke the tie with a goal courtesy of Andrew Ebbett. This goal put the Chops in their first lead of the game sitting at 4-3.

With a minute left in the game and Goehring out of his net, the Moose battled to earn another goal, but six attackers couldn't do the trick and the home team fell to the Chops, 4-3.
