
Flames rally for regulation point

A thrilling Flames comeback earned the team a regulation point in a 4-3 overtime loss to Chicago on Saturday at Allstate Arena. Jamie Lundmark, Kris Chucko and Kyle Greentree combined to score three times in a span of 2:09 late in the third to gain a standings point. Brett Sterling ruined the Flames comeback by scoring his second goal of the night for the Wolves at 1:18 of the extra session.
The Wolves capture the lead on a breakaway goal by Brett Sterling at 8:45 of the second period. Streling captured a loose puck at the Chicago blueline and darted in alone on Flames netminder Matt Keetley. Sterling scored his fourth goal of the year to put his team in front. The tally stood up as the only goal of the first two frames.
A wild third period began with back-to-back goals by the Wolves. Jeff Hamilton netted his second goal of the season on a shot from the high slot during a Chicago power play. Riley Holzapfel scored after finding a loose puck in the slot to put Chicago up 3-0 with 12:05 to play. The Flames roared back with a trio of goals separated by just 2:09 beginning at 14:42 of the closing frame. Jamie Lundmark scored on a goal-mouth scramble at 14:42 of the frame to begin the comeback. Kris Chucko tipped home a Brett Palin point shot just 1:18 later to pull the Flames to within one. Kyle Greentree capped the comeback when he scored on a Kris Chucko feed from behind the Chicago net. The three-goal flurry earned the Flames a regulation point and force an overtime session.
Just 1:18 into the extra frame, Brett Sterling fire a shot into the Quad City net to win the game for the Wolves. Sterling scored after dangling in the Flames zone and shooting from the left wing circle.
The Budweiser Flames Forum returns to Bleacher Bums on Monday at 6:00 p.m. Ryan McGill, Jamie Lundmark, Cam Cunning and Aki Seitsonen will join host Aaron Roof. Fans in attendance will be eligible to win prizes from Budweiser and the Flames. The show can also be heard live on 93.9 FM WYEC.
The Flames are back home on Friday, December 5th to face Rockford. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Fans will receive Flames Team Photos courtesy of Heartland Chiropractic. It's Kids Safety Night. Local law enforcement, fire departments and the Quad City Bicycle Club will be on hand to educate young fans.
