San Antonio Rampage News Release

SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Rampage (12-19-0-3) fell to the Oklahoma City Barons (12-17-1-5) tonight in front of a crowd of 6,618 at the AT&T Center by a score of 5-2.

Ryan Whitney netted his third of the year to tie the game at one in the first, getting assists from Bobby Butler and Vince Trocheck. Wade Megan found the net for his second of the year, tipping in a Matt Gilroy shot from the half boards in the third to bring the Rampage within one. Jacob Markstrom stopped 31-of-35 in the loss.

After struggling with the power play as of late, the Rampage made good on a 5-on-3 opportunity midway through the opening frame. Cycling down low, Butler fed Trocheck who in turn fed Whitney from down low, and the defenseman one-timed it from the bottom of the right circle to give the Rampage the 1-0 lead.

Whitney's power play tally was his third of the year, and came at 10:15 of the first period.

The Barons responded 4:04 later on their own 5-on-3. Markstrom made the initial stop on a CJ Stretch shot, but Roman Horak was waiting at the backdoor for the rebound, and ripped it into the open net to tie the game up with 5:41 remaining.

A late Rampage penalty would give Oklahoma City 45 seconds of power play time to begin the second, and Derek Nesbitt found the net just 35 seconds into the middle frame to break the tie and give his team the 2-1 lead.

The Silver and Black would kill off another penalty, but Taylor Fedun widened the gap to 3-1 at the 8:07 mark for the Barons' third power-play goal of the night.

Megan would pull the Rampage within one five and a half minutes into the third, capitalizing on a Gilroy shot from the boards, but the tally proved to be fruitless, as the Barons piled on two more to finish out the third.

Markstrom stopped the initial shot from Taylor Fedun, but CJ Stretch quickly banged home the rebound to make it 4-2, and Matt Ford sealed the deal with 32.5 seconds remaining in regulation to ice it, 5-2.

The Rampage went 1-for-4 on the power play, and gave up three extra man goals to the Barons, as they went 3-for-7. Oklahoma City outshot the Rampage, 36-35.

The Rampage travel to Oklahoma City tomorrow night to complete the home-and-home with the Barons, before starting a lengthy homestand in the month of January. Individual and season tickets can be purchased at the AT&T Center Southeast Box Office, by calling a Rampage representative at 210-444-5554, or online at sarampage.com.
