Albany Devils News Release
GLENS FALLS, NY - For the first time this season, the Albany Devils failed to score on the road. Adirondack Phantoms netminder Cal Heeter made 29 saves in his team's 4-0 victory Saturday at Glens Falls Civic Center. Entering the night, the Devils were averaging 2.87 goals per game away from Times Union Center.
"They really make it hard in front of their net," said Head Coach Rick Kowalsky. "There were a lot of rebounds there. We got to a couple of them and when we did Heeter made saves. There is no question we had chances." Albany's four-game point streak came to an end as it moved to 19-9-3-2. Adirondack earned its fourth consecutive victory and improved to 18-13-0-2.
Kris Newbury led all Phantoms with two goals and an assist. Bruno Gervais and Tye McGinn also scored and Jason Akeson registered a pair of helpers.
Gervais started the scoring at 18:57 of the first period and Newbury followed with back-to-back tallies in the second period. The first at 1:21 and the second at 14:55 on the power play.
Before the intermission break, McGinn increased Adirondack's lead at 16:25.
"You look at the first [goal] it was a turnover they capitalized on," Kowalsky said. "The second one goes off our skate. The third is a fluky one off the faceoff that they bang in. Your not always going to get the bounces. With that being said you have to make your own breaks." Scott Wedgewood made 31 saves on 35 attempts in his 13th appearance of the season.
Albany, which went 0-3 with the man advantage and 2-3 on the penalty kill, were outshot 35-33
The Devils return to action Tuesday with a 7 pm outing against the Springfield Falcons at Times Union Center.
