Springfield, Mass. - The Springfield Falcons (24-5-1-3) defeated the Providence Bruins by the final score of 2-1 Saturday night in front of 5,889 at the MassMutual Center, as Spencer Machacek scored both Springfield goals.

Machacek found the back of the net at 10:24 of the second period, burying his own rebound past Providence netminder Niklas Svedberg to pull the Falcons even with the Bruins at 1-1. The Lethbridge, Alberta native scored his second goal of the night and the eventual game-winner at 17:37 of the middle frame on a wrist shot from the right-wing circle. His second multi-goal effort of the season gives Machacek a total of six scores this season.

In his return to the Springfield lineup after a month-long stint with the Columbus Blue Jackets, the team's NHL affiliate, goaltender Mike McKenna earned his seventh victory of the season Saturday. The St. Louis native made 26 saves on 27 shots, improving his goals-against average to 1.41 and save percentage to .945.

Nick Johnson scored the lone Bruins goal at 10:13 of the second period, giving Providence a 1-0 lead. The lead was only held for 11 seconds.

Springfield's Tim Miller extended his point streak to five games with an assist on the game-winning goal. The 26-year-old forward has recorded six assists over that span.

With the victory, the Falcons improved upon their league-leading points percentage, raising the rate to .788. Springfield is tied for the highest point total in the AHL with the Manchester Monarchs at 52.
