Pawtucket Red Sox News Release
(Rochester, NY) - The Pawtucket Red Sox used four RBI from the red-hot Henry Ramos and seven terrific innings from Aaron Wilkerson to pull past the Rochester Red Wings, 6-2, in the opener of a three-game series at Frontier Field on Monday night.
Wilkerson (4-1) allowed two runs on four hits in seven innings of work. He struck out eight, walked none and threw a remarkable 75 of his 97 pitches for strikes.
In seven appearances since his return to Triple-A on May 28, Wilkerson is 4-1 with a 1.73 ERA. He has struck out at least seven batters in five of his six starts over that stretch.
Both Rochester (45-33) runs came in the blink of an eye with one out in the fourth inning.
The rehabbing Miguel Sano launched a home run (1) to center field and the next batter, Jorge Polanco, hooked a ball over the right field fence (5).
The back-to-back blasts only tied the game, 2-2, because Ramos had already begun delivering offensively for the PawSox (40-38).
After a pair of singles against Red Wings starter Pat Dean (1-5) in the third inning, Ramos drilled a ball up the gap in right center field for a two-run triple.
Ramos' next at-bat came in the fifth inning after a Jose Vinicio walk and a Jantzen Witte double placed two runners in scoring position. Ramos delivered a two-run single into right field, putting Pawtucket ahead, 4-2.
Ramos has two triples, two home runs and 12 RBI in his last six games, including two four-RBI performances in the last three days. He is now batting .329 in 19 games with the PawSox.
Jantzen Witte drilled his second consecutive double in the seventh inning, scoring Vinicio with Pawtucket's sixth run.
In the following frame, Chris Dominguez drilled his third home run of the season over the left field fence that extended the lead to 6-2.
The top three hitters in the PawSox batting order (Vinicio, Witte and Ramos) all recorded a pair of hits, while Vinico scored three of Pawtucket's six runs.
Kyle Martin tossed two hitless innings to seal the victory.
The PawSox improved to 4-1 at Frontier Field this season.
Pawtucket continues its three-game series in Rochester tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. PawSox righthander Justin Haley (1-1, 4.73) is scheduled to take the mound against Rochester righty Jose Berrios (6-3, 2.92). Radio coverage on WHJJ (920 AM) and throughout the PawSox radio network begins at 6:35 p.m.
The PawSox will return home for a four-game, holiday-weekend series against the Columbus Clippers on Thursday. Friday, Saturday and Sunday's contests will all feature post-game fireworks shows. Good seats for each of the games are still available at the McCoy Stadium box office, by calling (401) 724-7300 or by visiting pawsox.com.
