June 27, 2016 - International League (IL1)
Syracuse Mets News Release
The Syracuse Chiefs have announced the addition of three new players to Monday's roster: second baseman Chris Bostick, outfielder Zach Collier and right-handed pitcher Reynaldo Lopez. The three players join the Chiefs from Double-A Harrisburg. As corresponding moves, infielder Scott Sizemore, outfielder Tony Campana and right-handed pitcher Juan Gutierrez have been released by the Nationals. In addition, right-handed pitcher Rafael Martin has been recalled by Washington to take the roster spot of Stephen Strasburg. The Chiefs' roster currently stands at 24 before Monday's game.
Chris Bostick, a Rochester, NY native, joins the Chiefs after playing 71 games with Double-A Harrisburg this season. With the Senators, Bostick hit .290 with a .356 on-base percentage and .462 slugging percentage. Bostick slugged 11 doubles, eight triples and six home runs, collected 33 RBIs and stole eight of 16 bases. Bostick's eight triples lead the Eastern League to date. The 23-year-old is in his sixth professional year and second with the Nationals after an offseason trade with Texas in 2014. Bostick played at Aquinas Institute in Rochester and was named New York State's Class B Player of the Year in 2011. Bostick's first game will mark his triple-A debut.
Zach Collier also makes his triple-A debut in 2016. The 25-year-old outfielder in his ninth professional season was a first-round pick of the Phillies in 2008. This year, his first with the Nationals, Collier hit .285 with a .336 on-base percentage and .425 slugging percentage in 64 games for Harrisburg, picking up nine doubles, six triples, three home runs and five stolen bases in eight attempts. Collier's six triples place him in a tie for third in the Eastern League. Last season, Collier played in 63 games with the Lancaster Barnstormers of the independent Atlantic League.
22-year-old Reynaldo Lopez joins the Chiefs after making 14 starts with Double-A Harrisburg. Lopez sported a 3.18 ERA with the Senators, ranking tenth in the Eastern League. His 100 strikeouts are an Eastern-League high. In 76 and one-third innings, Lopez has allowed 69 hits, walked 25 and struck out 100. The right-hander has struck out 10 or more batters in four of his last six starts, including 10 strikeouts over eight scoreless innings last time out on June 25th at New Hampshire. Prior to the season, Baseball America ranked Lopez the 92nd-best prospect in baseball and fifth-best in the Nationals' system.
Sizemore posted a .205/.353/.323 slash line in 60 games with Syracuse this season, leading the team and ranking third in the International League with 42 walks. Campana hit .225/.301/.242 in 43 games with a league-leading eight sacrifice bunts. Gutierrez pitched to a 5.21 ERA in 18 games, striking out 17 and walking eight in 19 innings.
Martin joins the Nationals with a 4.40 ERA in 29 games out of the bullpen at Syracuse this season. Martin has thrown scoreless relief in 23 of his 29 appearances for Syracuse, striking out 31 batters and walking 12 (three intentional). He ranks second in the International League in saves with 14.
The Chiefs begin a three-game series with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders tonight at 6:35. Syracuse then returns home for an Independence Day weekend extravaganza, with games Saturday, July 2nd and Sunday, July 3rd, both at 7:05, against the Rochester Red Wings. Tickets are on sale now at syracusechiefs.com, by calling 474-7833 or in person at the NBT Bank Stadium ticket office. Fans are encouraged to buy advance tickets to avoid gameday lines.
