Tacoma Rainiers News Release

TACOMA, Wash. - Another strong offensive performance and four terrific innings of relief from the bullpen propelled the Tacoma Rainiers (44-40) to a 5-3 victory over the Reno Aces (38-46) Monday night at Cheney Stadium.

Tacoma relievers Daniel Schlereth (1.0), Ryan Garton (1.0), Ryan Cook (1.0) and Shawn Armstrong (1.0) combined to shut out Reno across the final four innings of the game. Cook lowered his earned-run average to 1.76, -- second on the team among relievers with at least 10 appearances -- Armstrong tallied his team-leading eighth save and Schlereth earned his first win of the year.

Catcher David Freitas keyed the Rainiers offense by going 2-for-4 with an RBI Monday night and extended Tacoma's longest hit streak of the year to nine games. Third baseman Seth Mejias-Brean (2x4, RBI), center fielder Andrew Aplin (2x4, RBI) and shortstop Zach Vincej (1x4, 2 RBI) also contributed to another productive night at the plate for the Rainiers.

Tacoma starter Casey Lawrence allowed three runs across five innings Monday night and struck out four Aces hitters.

The Rainiers and Aces return to action Monday night at 7:05 p.m. for the final contest of the current nine-game homestand. Right-hander Christian Bergman (4-6, 4.67) will get the start for Tacoma and lefty Alex Young (2-2, 7.36) will toe the rubber for Reno.
