Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
Jon Gray dominated on the mound in his first start with the Isotopes (42-42) on Tuesday night, pitching 6.0 strong innings to lead Albuquerque to an 11-5 victory in El Paso (45-40).
Gray joined the Isotopes on Tuesday after being reassigned by the Rockies to Triple-A. The 26-year-old held the Chihuahuas hitless for the first five innings of the night before Javy Guerra led off the sixth with an infield single.
The right-hander finished the evening yielding two runs, two hits, no walks and struck out six batters. Gray helped his own cause at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a double, run scored and a sacrifice bunt.
Albuquerque's lineup compiled 16 hits on the night led by Daniel Castro with four. Castro belted his first home run of the year in the third inning. The home run was one of three for the Isotopes on Tuesday. Garrett Hampson went deep in the fourth and Mike Tauchman connected on his 13th long ball in the ninth. Tauchman drove in a team-high four runs in the game.
The Isotopes return home to Albuquerque on Wednesday to begin a five-game series against the Tacoma Rainiers. Right-hander Peter Lambert is scheduled to make his Triple-A debut with the Isotopes. Lambert joins Albuquerque after recording a 2.23 ERA (23er/92.2ip) and eight wins with Double-A Hartford. First pitch for the Fourth of July contest is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. with gates opening early at 5:00 p.m.?
