Oklahoma City Comets News Release

Metairie, La. - Drew Hutchison led the Oklahoma City Dodgers pitching staff to a three-hit shutout, and Alex Verdugo bolstered the team's offense with a three-hit, three-RBI night, as the Oklahoma City Dodgers beat the New Orleans Baby Cakes, 4-0, Tuesday night at the Shrine on Airline.

Hutchison combined with three relievers on the team's fourth shutout of the season. The pitching staff allowed three singles, matching the team's fewest amount of hits allowed this season. The quartet of pitchers needed just 101 pitches to complete the whitewash and only had two runners advance as far as second base.

Hutchison (2-1) set a season high with six innings, yielding just two singles. He also walked two and struck out four while using 70 pitches to complete six frames, as a Dodgers starting pitcher delivered six scoreless and efficient innings for the second straight game. After two of the first batters he faced reached base, only two of the final 18 batters he faced reached base. At one point between the first and fifth innings, Hutchison retired 13 consecutive batters.

Joe Broussard, Pat Venditte and Brian Schlitter each pitched a scoreless inning and combined to retire nine of 10 batters faced to finish the game.

Both starting pitchers were on their game early. Through three innings, the game was scoreless and each team had collected just one hit.

The Dodgers (45-35) opened the scoring in the fourth inning. Breyvic Valera led off the inning with a single, and with one out, he stole second base. Verdugo drove Valera in with a RBI double to right-center field to give the Dodgers a 1-0 lead.

In the sixth, the Dodgers muscled up and hit two home runs to extend the lead to 4-0. Verdugo hit the first home run with a solo shot to right-center field. After Kyle Farmer doubled, Henry Ramos pulled a two-run homer to left field.

Verdugo and Ramos combined for five of the team's nine hits and four of the team's five extra-base hits. Verdugo tallied a game-high three hits and also walked. He and Ramos each connected on their seventh homer of the season.

New Orleans starting pitcher Jarlin Garcia took the loss after giving up four runs and six hits over 5.2 innings. Garcia (0-2) walked one and struck out six.

The Dodgers open a five-game home series against the Round Rock Express with an Independence Day celebration at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
