DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Cubs (29-54) suffered a five-game sweep at the hands of the Memphis Redbirds (53-32), with a 7-5 loss, Tuesday at Principal Park.

Iowa captured a 4-1 lead in the first but couldn't hold on as the Redbirds put up a three-spot in the second, one in the fifth and two in the seventh.

Mark Zagunis got Iowa's offense started with a leadoff single. Chesny Young tacked on a double and Bijan Rademacher batted in Iowa's first run of the game with a base hit. With the bases loaded later in the frame, Young scored on a wild pitch strikeout of Taylor Davis. Trey Martin roped an RBI single and Stephen Bruno pushed in the fourth run of the inning with a one-out groundout to third.

Memphis clapped back in a big way, plating three in the second to knot the game. Randy Arozarena blasted a two-run homer and Luke Voit batted in the third run of the frame with a single.

A homer from Voit in the fifth put the Redbirds ahead and rehabbing Paul DeJong added necessary insurance with a two-run shot in the seventh.

Iowa fought with a run in the eighth, sparked by a leadoff bunt-single from Rademacher and a key error, but Iowa couldn't make up the difference.

Eddie Butler (0-2) made his second rehab start for Iowa, getting chased after 1.1 innings having allowed four runs on five hits. He walked two and whiffed one. Trevor Clifton - Iowa's original scheduled starter - gave Iowa 6.2 strong innings in relief, allowing three earned runs on seven hits. Brad Markey closed the game with two strikeouts through a perfect frame.

Zagunis, Rademacher and Jason Vosler each tabbed a multi-hit game and accounted for seven of Iowa's nine hits. Zagunis is batting .431 (22-for-51) through his last 16 games.

Iowa visits Nashville for a five-game set beginning tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. Follow the action on AM 940 or www.iowacubs.com.
