Rainiers Cruise Past Bees For 5-1 Victory

TACOMA, Wash. - The Tacoma Rainiers (31-21) strung together 13 hits en route to a 5-1 victory over the Salt Lake Bees (26-25) on Wednesday afternoon at Cheney Stadium.

Tacoma starting pitcher Brad Mills (1-1) worked 6.0 innings, holding the Bees to one run on three hits with three walks and five strikeouts to earn his first win of the year.

Relievers Justin De Fratus, Paul Fry, and Blake Parker combined to hold Salt Lake to one hit over the final 3.0 innings of the game, surrendering no walks and striking out four.

Left fielder Patrick Kivlehan (3x4), shortstop Ketel Marte (2x4), left fielder Daniel Robertson (2x4), and third baseman Zach Shank (2x4) all recorded multiple hits and combined to score all five Rainiers runs.

Salt Lake ventured onto the scoreboard in the top of the first inning with a two-out RBI single to center field from designated hitter Erik Kratz, giving the Bees a 1-0 lead.

Marte led off the bottom of the first inning with a single to left field and came around to score on a double down the left field line from Robertson. First baseman Efren Navarro then laced a one-out single to right field scoring Robertson after a fielding error by Bees right fielder Austin Cousino, giving Tacoma the 2-1 advantage.

Tacoma extended their lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the second inning when Chris Taylor roped a two-run single into centerfield to score Shank and Marte.

Center fielder Boog Powell lifted a sacrifice fly into right field to score Kivlehan in the bottom of the fifth inning, pushing the Rainiers lead to 5-1.

Tacoma and Salt Lake square off again tomorrow, Thursday, June 1 at 7:05 p.m. PT. The Rainiers are scheduled to start right-hander Adrian Sampson (5-3, 2.95), while the Bees are slated to go with righty Tim Lincecum (0-0, -.--).
