Memphis Edges Zephyrs 3-2
June 1, 2016 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
Memphis - Matt Juengel drilled a first inning two run home run but it was not enough as the Memphis Redbirds defeated the New Orleans Zephyrs 3-2 in the second game of the series.
The Zephyrs dropped their second consecutive one run game and 19 of their games have been decided by a run. The Z's are 10-9 in one run games and have played the third most in the PCL this season.
Redbirds starting pitcher Alex Reyes dominated. The 21-year old St. Louis Cardinals prospect hit the first batter of the game and then allowed the two run home run. He did not allow another hit in his six innings and whirled eleven strike outs in his first Triple-A win.
Memphis scratched out a pair of runs in the fourth inning to tie the game. The Z's had an opportunity in the sixth with a runner on third base with one out but failed to score and the Redbirds capitalized in the bottom of the inning for the winning run. Michael McKenry tripled to lead off the inning and scored on a Matt Williams infield hit.
Chris Narveson pitched five and two third innings and took the defeat for New Orleans. The Z's managed just three hits in the game.
Memphis improves to 22-28 and New Orleans falls to 21-30.
