Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - The Colorado Springs Sky Sox walked off in the first game, and then pitched a shutout in the second game to sweep a doubleheader over the Omaha Storm Chasers 6-5 and 5-0 on Wednesday night at Security Service Field.

In the first game, the Sky Sox starter Hiram Burgos (2-4, 4.53) struggled, allowing five runs on eight hits in five innings pitched as the Sky Sox fell behind 5-2 in the fifth.

The Sky Sox comeback began in the bottom half of the inning as Josmil Pinto scored Manny Pina with a ground out to get the Sky Sox back within a pair. Later in the inning, Garin Cecchini doubled to score Andy Wilkins and trim the Omaha lead to just a run.

In the sixth, Jaye Chapman came out of the Sky Sox bullpen and pitched a scoreless frame. The Sky Sox evened the score at five in the bottom half on a sacrifice fly from Pinto.

Chapman worked around a pair of Omaha base runners in the seventh inning to pitch another scoreless inning to give his offense a chance to win. Chapman earned his fourth win of the season in game one by pitching two scoreless innings.

Will Middlebrooks led off the bottom half with a single for the Sky Sox, and advanced to third base after a wild pitch and a ground out.

Michael Reed gave the Sky Sox the walk off win when Middlebrooks dove home with the winning run on his ground ball to second. Omaha second baseman Ramon Torres couldn't get the out at home, and the Sky Sox celebrated a thrilling 6-5 come from behind win to begin the twin bill.

In the second game, the Sky Sox pitching was the story. Southpaw Brent Suter (1-2, 4.28) was sharp early, but got a little help from his defense in the first few innings.

In each of the first three innings, Suter induced a ground ball double play to get through the inning unscathed.

The Sky Sox gave Suter some support in the third. A wild pitch scored Yadiel Rivera with the game's first run. Then Pina doubled down the right field line to score Orlando Arcia and give the Sky Sox a 2-0 lead.

In the fourth, Colorado Springs doubled the lead on a single from Eric Young Jr. that scored Cecchini and Reed.

The Sky Sox got their final run of the day in the sixth on an Orlando Arcia single that scored Reed and made the score 5-0.

That was plenty of support for Suter, who pitched six scoreless innings while allowing six hits to earn his first win of the season.

Austin Ross pitched a scoreless seventh to give the Sky Sox their first shutout victory of the season and their first doubleheader sweep since August 2013. .

The series continues tomorrow night with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. MDT at Security Service Field.
