
RailRiders win convincingly on Sunday afternoon

(Allentown, Pa) - The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (21-27) suffered their worst loss of the season on Sunday afternoon as the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (32-13). The IronPigs managed just two hits and gave up a season-high 23 hits.
The IronPigs did take a 1-0 lead against Asher Wojciechowski in the bottom of the first inning when Darick Hall hit an RBI single to score Didi Gregorius. The RailRiders answered with a run in the top of the second inning when Max McDowell hit an RBI single against David Parkinson (0-5) to score Armando Alvarez.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre proceeded to score ten runs in the top of the third inning to take an 11-1 lead over the IronPigs. The RailRiders sent 13 batters to the plate and four home runs were hit in the inning. Chris Gittens hit two home runs (solo & grand slam) while Hoy Park and Ryan LaMarre each hit one. Three doubles were hit in the inning (Florial, Amburgey, and Allen) plus two hit batters (Holder and McDowell).
Parkinson left the game after two plus innings as he allowed six runs (all earned) off six hits and two walks with two strikeouts. David Paulino pitched just three innings as he allowed five runs off four hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
The RailRiders scored six runs against Zach Warren in the top of the sixth inning to take a 17-1 lead. They added two more runs in the top of the eighth inning against Ethan Evanko to take a 19-1 lead.
Brody Koerner (2-3) earned the win after pitching a scoreless 1 1/3 inning in relief of Wojciechowski. The RailRiders used eight pitchers in the contest with Lehigh Valley using six pitchers.
The IronPigs begin a six-game series in Trenton on Tuesday evening against the Buffalo Bisons. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
