Bats Come Back for Walk-Off Win
June 27, 2021 - International League (IL)
Indianapolis Indians News Release
LOUISVILLE, KY. - With a 1-0 lead entering the ninth inning thanks to Hunter Owen's sixth home run of the season, the Indianapolis Indians lost in walk-off fashion to the Louisville Bats on Sunday afternoon, 2-1. The Indians lost the series, four games to two.
The Bats (18-29) loaded the bases on a walk and pair of singles with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning. Brantley Bell then singled to right field off Nick Mears (L, 1-2) to score both Louisville runs for the win.
The game was knotted in a tight pitchers' duel through the first seven innings. Beau Sulser went five scoreless against MLB rehabber Jeff Hoffman, who allowed two hits through four innings. Louisville had a scoring chance in the bottom of the second inning with a leadoff triple off the bat of TJ Friedl, but stranded the opportunity.
Hunter Owen put the Indians (25-22) on top with a solo bomb to right field to lead off the eighth inning, the team's only extra-base hit and one of two total in the game. Jose De Leon (W, 1-1) held the Indians scoreless in the top half of the ninth prior to Louisville's comeback win.
The Indians return to Victory Field on Tuesday night for a 7:05 PM ET first pitch vs. the Iowa Cubs. The six-game series will be the first time the Cubs have visited the Circle City since 1997 as part of the American Association. Neither team has named a starter for the series-opening game.
