Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
DES MOINES, IA. -- Left fielder Anderson Miller smacked two home runs, including a three-run homer as part of an eight-run fifth inning, and the Omaha Storm Chasers pounded the Iowa Cubs, 13-2, on Saturday at Principal Park.
Omaha (32-14) started the game with a four-run frame against Iowa (16-28) right-hander Joe Biagini (Loss, 1-3), sending 10 batters to the plate in the top of the first inning. After centerfielder Edward Olivares singled and stole second and right-fielder Kyle Isbel walked, first baseman Emmanuel Rivera reached on an error to load the bases. Designated hitter Ryan McBroom brought in the game's first run with an infield single up the middle before second baseman Gabriel Cancel added to the lead with a two-run single two batters later. Catcher Nick Dini capped the scoring in the first inning with an RBI single.
The Chasers added a run in the third on Miller's first home run of the game, a line drive to straightaway centerfield. Miller's second homer brought in the final runs of Omaha's eight-run inning.
Miller started the fifth inning with a single and promptly scored on an RBI double from Dini, who scored on an RBI single from third baseman Alcides Escobar. Three batters later, Escobar scored on an error that allowed Rivera to reach base. Following a second straight error by third baseman Trent Giambrone that loaded the bases, Cancel ripped a two-run double to left field. Next, Miller, the 10th man to bat in the inning, smoked a three-run homer over the centerfield fence.
Miller finished the game 3-for-3 with two home runs and four RBIs. It was his second career two-homer game and the 11th multi-homer game this season for a Chasers player. Dini went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs and Cancel finished 2-for-5 with four RBIs, giving him 10 RBIs in this week's series against Iowa.
The eight runs were the most runs in an inning by Omaha this season and the first time the Chasers have scored at least eight runs in an inning since July 6, 2019, when they scored eight runs in the first inning of an 11-3 win at Werner Park. Miller, who scored the first and eighth runs of the inning, became the first Chaser to score twice in one inning since Elier Hernandez on May 8, 2019, in a 14-3 win at Memphis.
Left-hander Daniel Lynch (Win, 4-1) completed five scoreless innings for the second time this season, allowing just four hits while tying a season-high with seven strikeouts and walking three. Omaha has won each of Lynch's seven starts this season, outscoring opponents 70-31 in games Lynch starts.
The I-Cubs scored two runs, one in the sixth on a wild pitch from right-hander Andrés Sotillet and another in the seventh, charged to Sotillet, on a balk by left-hander Jake Kalish after he entered the game in the middle of the inning. Kalish retired all five batters he faced, including four with strikeouts. In two appearances in this series, Kalish has thrown 4.1 perfect innings with nine strikeouts.
The Storm Chasers finish their series with the I-Cubs on Sunday behind right-hander Jackson Kowar (5-0, 0.85). First pitch is scheduled for 1:08 p.m. and coverage begins at 12:45 p.m. with the Sarpy County Tourism Pregame Show at 6:45 p.m. on 1180 The Zone.
Following a two-week road trip to Iowa and St. Paul, the Omaha Storm Chasers return to Werner Park on Tuesday, July 6, to begin a six-game series against the Toledo Mun Hens that features special FNBO Summer Fireworks Series shows on July 8 and July 10 and an Adalberto Mondesi bobblehead giveaway on July 9.
