Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

SYRACUSE, NY - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders beat the Syracuse Mets 8-4 Saturday night at NBT Bank Stadium. Ken Waldichuk struck out 11 over six innings and Oswald Pereza hit his fifth home run of the season as the RailRiders reeled off their fourth straight win.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre opened the scoring in the top of the first. Peraza reached on an infield single; his first hit of the series. After stealing second and advancing to third on an error, Peraza scored on a double to the left field corner by Miguel Andujar.

Waldichuk handled the Mets in order over the first two innings, striking out two in each frame. Syracuse evened the score with a run on two hits and a hit batter in the third with a pair of strikeouts. The southpaw settled back in after that, striking out five more the rest of the way in a quality start.

The RailRiders sent all nine batters to the plate in the top of the sixth. Ronald Guzman doubled in the go-ahead run, plating Andujar from second. Phillip Evans and Guzman scored on a single by Jake Bauers to extend the lead to 4-1. Max McDowell added an RBI single and scored on a balk after a two-base error advanced him to third.

The Mets cut the lead down to two against Michael Gomez in the bottom of the seventh with three runs on a hit batter, two walks and two hits, but Scranton/Wilkes-Barre closed the scoring at 8-4 in the eighth when Peraza drilled a two-run blast over the left field wall off reliever Tommy Hunter.

Waldichuk (1-1) earned his first Triple-A win and became the first RailRiders pitcher to strikeout double-digit batters since Matt Krook on August 8, 2021. Connor Grey (3-2) allowed the first four runs for the Mets and took the loss.

Peraza had three hits after having gone hitless in his first 16 at-bats of the series. Andujar and Evans added multi-hit games for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, which won its fourth straight to clinch its second series win of the year.

The RailRiders and Mets conclude this seven-game set on Sunday at 1:05 P.M. Matt Krook gets the ball for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre against a yet to be announced starter for Syracuse.
