Louisville Bats News Release

LOUISVILLE, KY. - After a ninth inning rally by the Charlotte Knights (22-37), the Louisville Bats (22-35) drop a heartbreaker 3-1 on Saturday night at Louisville Slugger Field.

Another quiet start to the game, both starting pitchers settled in early. Louisville finally cracked into the score column in the bottom of the third when Cristian Santana walked to lead off the inning and was later brought home on an RBI single from Lorenzo Cedrola, marking the third consecutive game the Bats scored first.

Ben Lively (2-4, 3.51) delivered seven scoreless innings, his second consecutive start of at least six scoreless frames and his third in his last four outings. Lively only allowed five hits, one in each of the first five innings, with one walk and three strikeouts in the effort.

Charlotte rallied in the ninth and tied the game 1-1 thanks to a one-out blast off bat of Yermin Mercedes. The Knights tacked on two more off an RBI double from Blake Rutherford with two outs before Fernando Cruz struck out Zach Remillard to end the inning.

Allen Cordoba led off the bottom of the ninth with a single to right field, but the Bats could not mount a ninth inning comeback of their own to fall to the Knights 3-1.

The Bats and Knights will close out their series tomorrow afternoon with first pitch set for 1:05 pm E.T. Louisville southpaw Randy Wynne (1-6, 4.89) will face-off against Charlotte's righty Jimmy Lambert (0-2, 7.59) for the second time this week at Louisville Slugger Field.
