Bats Pitching Stellar in 3-1 Win

After combining to leave 26 men on base in the first three games of the series, the Louisville Bats made the most of their opportunities on Friday night in a 3-1 win over the Toledo Mud Hens.

Darius Vines got the spot start for the Bats after regularly scheduled starter Julian Aguiar was recalled by the Reds. He gave the Bats just what they needed, allowing one run on four hits with one walk and three strikeouts in 3.0 innings.

The Bats got the run back in the third. Following singles by Garrett Hampson and Edwin Arroyo, Orlando Arcia lifted a fly ball to right for a sacrifice fly, bringing Hampson home with the tying run.

Jared Lyons was first out of the Bats bullpen and kept the 1-1 tie for 2.2 innings before running into trouble in the sixth, as a pair of Mud Hens singles put two on with two outs. The Bats turned to lefty Anthony Misiewicz, who struck out former Bat Michael Siani to protect the 1-1 tie.

Toledo starter Sawyer Gipson-Long was stellar for 6.0 innings, limiting the Bats to one run on two hits. With him out of the game to start the seventh, the Bats jumped all over reliever Yoniel Curet. Michael Chavis led the inning off with a walk, moved to second on a wild pitch, stole third, and scored the go-ahead run on a Leo Balcazar RBI single. A few hitters later, Dominic Pitelli lifted a sacrifice fly of his own, scoring Balcazar to make it 3-1 Bats.

Pitching with the lead, Misiewicz made quick work of the Mud Hens in a 1-2-3 seventh. Cam Cotter struck out then struck out two of three hitters he faced in a clean eighth. In the ninth, Hunter Parks walked the first man he faced but retired the next three batters in a row to wrap up the win and earn his team-leading 11th save of the season.

The Bats earned the win despite being outhit 8-4, with Toledo leaving nine runners on base.
