Memphis Redbirds News Release
MEMPHIS, TN - The Memphis Redbirds bounced back in game five of the six-game series against the Durham Bulls on Friday night at AutoZone Park by a final score of 9-2.
Memphis immediately made up for being shut out on Friday night by scoring five runs across the first five innings in Saturday night's win.
Shortstop Paul DeJong drove his seventh home run of the season in the fifth to put Memphis up 5-1. The right-handed hitter then blew the game wide open in the bottom of the eighth with a three-run bomb off the left field foul pole to make the score 9-2. The homers add to DeJong's team-leading tally over the last 19 games.
Left fielder Conner Capel extended his on base streak to 18 games with a walk in the second inning. Over the active stretch, Capel has improved his walk total from four to 21 and posts and on base percentage just shy of .500 in the month of June.
Jake Woodford's third start of the season with Memphis was smooth. The right-handed pitcher tossed a season-high four innings of one-run baseball and allowed just three hits. Tommy Parsons (4-0) earned the win in relief.
The Memphis Redbirds (34-25) will return home to AutoZone Park for game six of a six-game series and 12-game homestand against the Durham Bulls on Sunday, June 12 for a 2:05 p.m. CDT first pitch.
