Wisconsin Rapids Rafters News Release
Wisconsin Rapids, WI- It was a heartbreaking loss in Green Bay for the Rafters as they fell to the Rockers 5-4 in 10 innings. They had a back and forth game but unfortunately came up just a little bit short as they were out hit 11-7
Frankie Gulko, the Salem product got the start on the mound for the Rafters and the Rockers struck first as they were able to secure a run with Rocker shortstop Cooper Kelly getting home and giving the Rockers a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 3rd. The Rafters immediately responded in the top of the 4th as Matt Olive, who made his first appearance of the season, had a lead off double and ended up crossing home plate to even the score at 1-1.
Green Bay went up 2-1 in the bottom of the 5th and the Rafters responded shortly after once again as Shane Taylor led off with a triple and scored on an unearned run with Logan Hugo stealing second and Shane advancing home. The score was 2-2 in a hard fought game that went into extra innings
The top of the 10th came for the Rafters and they started with Sam Schmitt on second. Shortly after, second basemen, Ty Johnson recorded an Rbi that sent Schmitt home. Jack Basseer was up next and hit a ground ball into right field that sent Brandon Rogers home for the Rafters to add to their lead 4-2.
The bottom of the 10th came and a gut wrenching punch came from Rockers 3rd basemen, Andrew Harris who sent a two run shot to deep right center to even the score at 4-4. The Rockers unfortunately kept the bats rolling as Tommy Davis was able to get home from 3rd on a JoJo Jackson walk off sac fly. The Rockers won 5-4 in a tough loss on the road.
The Rafters will have their chance to get revenge on the Rockers as they head back to Witter Field tomorrow night. First Pitch is scheduled at 6:05.
