Wisconsin Rapids Rafters News Release
WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI - The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (13-12) had only two hits in the last five innings and lose 6-3 to the Wisconsin Woodchucks (16-9). The game originally slated for 6:35 p.m. began at 9:05 p.m. after a rain delay and ended just after midnight.
The Woodchucks led off the third, with two hits. After Rafters' starter Justin Beyer (Wagner) got two outs, a Gino Groover single brought home two.
The Rafters responded in the bottom half of the inning as McKinley Erves (La Grange) doubled and was driven home by a groundout from Marco Castillo (Claremont McKenna).
The Woodchucks in the fifth, loaded the bases. A walk of Antonio Valdez and sacrifice fly from Kevin Kilpatrick plated two. The walk of Valdez removed Beyer from the game, in total Beyer walked four and allowed four on six hits.
In the sixth, the Woodchucks got two runners on and a potential inning ending flyball was dropped by Couper Cornblum (Wichita St.).
The Rafters tacked on a second run in the sixth, off a Blake Mann (St. Mary's) double. A second runner was thrown out at home.
Zach Bennett (Central Florida) threw a 1-2-3 eighth for Wisconsin Rapids. In the bottom of the eighth, EJ Exposito delivered an RBI single, his third consecutive game with a run batted in.
The last chance inning for the Rafters down 6-3, in the ninth, saw only one base runner.
The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters are back in action tomorrow night to play the Wisconsin Woodchucks for the fifth time at Witter Field. First pitch is 6:35 p.m. The game can be heard on WFHR AM 1320 and seen on the Northwoods League Baseball Network.
