Great Lakes Loons News Release
DAVENPORT, IA - Tyler Ogle pulled off a rare feat, made possible only by a lopsided game. The Loons' slugger slugged a two-run homer in the top of the seventh inning as the DH. Later, pressed into emergency pitching duty, he surrendered a two-run homer to Roberto Pena in a 17-6 win for Quad Cities.
Jobduan Morales hit a grand slam off reliever Arismendy Ozoria, part of a seven-run sixth inning for Quad Cities to put the game out of reach, an inning extended by a catcher's interference charged to Dashenko Ricardo. Jesse Wierzbicki drove in two with a single up the middle. Later in the inning, Morales went deep to right.
Loons starter Angel Sanchez (1-3) took the loss, allowing five earned runs in five innings. Trailing 4-1, the Loons best chance to get back in the ballgame was in the top of the fifth. The Loons loaded the bases against starter Joe Bircher, who was removed after 4 2/3 innings. Ryan Dimock (1-0) entered, threw four pitches and retired Paul Hoenecke to escape the jam. It was the only four pitches he threw, but he was credited with the win.
In the eighth after a two-run single by Joe Sclafani, reliever Sawil Gonzalez was removed after two-thirds of an inning and the Loons opted to use Ogle instead of a typical pitcher. On the mound, Ogle finished with two strikeouts and a homer allowed in 1 1/3 innings. At the plate, he entered the game second in the league in on-base percentage and was credited with reaching base in four of five plate appearances on a homer, single, walk and hit batsman. Jeremy Rathjen also reached twice on two singles a walk and hit batsman.
The Great Lakes Loons begin a six-game homestand at Dow Diamond Wednesday night with the first game of a three-game series against the Beloit Snappers. Game time Wednesday is 7:05 p.m. Great seats are available by calling 989-837-BALL or visiting Loons.com. The Loons will be honoring their feathery birthday boy, Lou E. Loon, during the game. Left-hander Miguel Sulbaran (2-0, 4.97 ERA) is slated to start for the Loons. The Snappers are scheduled to go with right-hander Seth Streich (2-1, 6.48). The game will be broadcast live on ESPN 100.9-FM and ESPN1009.com.
The Loons are a seventh-year Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers and members of the Midwest League. For more information about the Loons, visit Loons.com or call 989-837-BALL.
