Seven High School Games Round out Fifth Third Field Schedule

Dayton, Ohio- The 15-game high school baseball schedule this spring at Fifth Third Field wraps up in a big way this weekend. 14 area teams will participate in six games over three days at the home of the Dayton Dragons.

This week's schedule at Fifth Third Field starts on Thursday, May 2nd with a rivalry match up between Greenville and Springfield Catholic Central at 4:30. Northmont and Miamisburg follow at 7:30. On Friday, May 3rd, St. Henry takes on Fort Recovery at 5:00 and Vandalia-Butler challenges Beavercreek at 8:00. Saturday's triple-header pits Lehman Catholic against Cedarville at 1:00, Covington faces Bradford at 4:00, and Dayton Christian and Troy Christian round out the action at 7:00.

Greenville High School vs. Springfield Catholic Central High School

Springfield Catholic Central coach Bret Miller says his squad is "elated" to be making the trip to Fifth Third Field Thursday.

"The kids have really been pointing at this day since the beginning of the season as a chance to put on a great show for their friends and family, and display how far they have come as a team," Miller said.

Springfield Catholic Central comes into Thursday's contest a winner in six of its last seven games and in second place in the Ohio Heritage Conference.

Greenville provides stiff opposition for Sprinfield Catholic Central. The Green Wave is 12-8 on the year and has won five straight games.

Greenville 's Colton Nealeigh ranks fifth in the Greater Western Ohio conference with a .534 batting average. He also leads the team with 22 RBI in 20 games. Ryan Eldridge is second on the team with a .411 batting average and 19 RBIs.

Northmont High School vs. Miamisburg High School

Coach Terry Johnson and his Miamisburg squad are excited to return to Fifth Third Field for the first time since 2006. The Vikings are 10-5 on the year and poised for playoff success.

"Our goal is to press on, finish in the top two in our division, and make a nice run in the state tournament," Johnson said.

Miamisburg's led by catcher Ryan Butcher, who is batting .525 on the year with 23 RBIs, and infielder/pitcher Jeremy Randolph, who is hitting .462 and leads the team with a 1.07 ERA.

On the other side, Virginia Tech commit Tom Stoffel leads 13-3 Northmont to Fifth Third Field. The Thunderbolts are tied for first in the Greater Western Ohio Conference Central Division at 6-0 in league play.

Stoffel leads the team with two home runs and he's also been strong on the mound. In 17 innings pitched, he has stuck out a staggering 37 batters.

Troy Mangen has also done his part to help the Thunderbolts. He leads the conference with a .584 batting average.

St. Henry High School vs. Fort Recovery High School

St. Henry brings an 8-10 record to Fifth Third Field Friday for a meeting with Fort Recovery High School. The Redskins started the season at 7-4, but their record has slowed over the past couple of weeks.

Meanwhile, Fort Recovery makes the 90-minute trip to Fifth Third Field ranked seventh in the Division IV Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association Poll that was released last week. Fort Recovery is 10-6 on the season.

Vandalia-Butler High School vs. Beavercreek High School

Vandalia-Butler has played this season with a target on its back. The Aviators are the defending sectional a divisional champions, and have won sectionals three of the past four seasons. This year, Vandalia-Butler is 12-6 and leads the North Division of the Greater Western Ohio Conference with a 5-1 record.

Pete Yorgen leads the way for the Aviators with a .491 average, while Eric Hansman is batting .453 with a team-leading 18 RBIs. Josh Edwards and Jacob Larger have combined for a 7-1 record on the hill this season.

On the other side, Beavercreek enters the contest at 11-7 on the season. Pitching has been the strength of the Battlin' Beavers squad this season. Starter Alex Anders leads the Greater Western Ohio Conference with 42 strikeouts in just 28 innings on the mound. He couples those strikeouts with a 4-2 record and a 2.22 ERA. Meanwhile, fellow Battlin' Beaver pitcher Mike Bianco has a 2-1 record with an ERA of 1.06.

Lehman Catholic High School vs. Cedarville High School

Lehman Catholic enters Saturday's match up at 12-4 on the year. The Cavaliers are a young squad this year, with four freshman and two sophomores in the starting lineup. Lehman Catholic manager Dave King cites contributions up and down his order for his team's success.

"We don't have star players and we don't have anyone who cares about their stats," King said. "Instead we rely on a total team effort each game."

Cedarville, out of the Ohio Heritage Conference, is motivated to perform well at Fifth Third Field. The Indians are looking to a strong close to the regular season to gain momentum for the squad's playoff push.

Covington High School vs. Bradford High School

The middle game of the Saturday triple-header brings a Cross County Conference rivalry to Fifth Third Field.

Covington and Bradford make the trek south to the Home of the Dragons to play for valuable positioning in the conference standings.

Dayton Christian High School vs. Troy Christian High School

Dayton Christian and Troy Christian continue their rivalry at Fifth Third Field Saturday afternoon. Dayton Christian has battled a tough schedule this season, but gets rewarded with a game at the home of the Dragons Saturday. Manager Matt Morrison says his group is very excited to play at a professional stadium.

Meanwhile, Troy Christian is also excited to continue its yearly tradition of playing a game at Fifth Third Field. The Eagles have played a busy schedule to this point in the season and are looking to snag a Metro Buckeye Conference win from Dayton Christian.

The Dayton Dragons have been hosting the Miami Valley's best baseball teams since 2006 and are proud to continue the tradition for an eighth year. A complete list of high school baseball games scheduled to be played at Fifth Third Field can be found at daytondragons.com.

All games are free to attend and the media are invited to cover them. Gates will open one hour prior to the first game played that day. High schools may provide their own PA announcers, cheer squads, and national anthem singers. Some even bring their own radio broadcasters to the ballpark. Participating high schools sell Dragons tickets to help raise money for their programs.
