Dayton Dragons News Release
DAYTON, OHIO-The Cincinnati Reds official website, reds.com, is reporting that star pitcher Johnny Cueto is scheduled to pitch in Dayton for the Dragons on an injury rehabilitation assignment on Wednesday, May 8.
Cueto is on the Reds 15-day disabled list with a strained right lat muscle. He has not pitched since April 13.
The story at reds.com, written by Mark Sheldon, states that Cueto threw a 45-pitch bullpen session on Monday and will undergo a medical checkup before making a rehab assignment with the Double-A Pensacola Blue Wahoos on Friday, May 3. His second rehab assignment is scheduled to come five days later, with the Dragons on May 8 at Fifth Third Field against the Lansing Lugnuts.
Lawn tickets are available for the game at $7.00. Call the Dragons Box Office at (937) 228-2287.
The date of Cueto's start in Dayton is tentative based on the progression of his return from the injury.
Cueto pitched for the Dragons in 2006, earning the Reds Minor League Pitcher of the Year honor that season. He went 8-1 with a 2.59 earned run average in Dayton and was the starting pitcher for the East Division in the Midwest League All-Star Game that season. He made his big league debut with the Reds in 2008. In 2012, Cueto went 19-9 with a 2.78 ERA for the Reds, just missing the honor of becoming the Reds first 20-game winner since 1988. He finished fourth in the National League's Cy Young Award voting and was the Reds opening game starter in the National League Divisional Series. Cueto is 61-46 as a Major League pitcher.
The Dragons play at Clinton tonight at 7:30 p.m. EDT in the start to a six-game road trip.
