Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release

Geneva, IL - The Bowling Green Hot Rods (18-7) rallied from a four-run deficit to tie the Kane County Cougars (10-13), but Cougar Dan Vogelbach hit a tenth-inning walk-off single in a 5-4 walk-off on Wednesday at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark. Leonardo Reginatto and Joey Rickard recorded RBI hits in the ninth inning to send the contest into extra innings. LHP Jose Molina set season-highs with 3.2 innings pitched and six strikeouts while keeping the Hot Rods in the game.

Kane County scored three unearned runs off LHP Blake Snell to open the scoring. Pin-Chieh Chen stole third base and advanced home on a Hot Rods error in the first inning. In the third, Bijan Rademacher reached on a Bowling Green error and scored during a fielder's choice off the bat of Dan Volgelbach. With two out in the inning, Jeimer Candelario drove in another unearned run with a single that scored Oliver Zapata.

Molina gave up a run to Kane County in the fifth inning as Gioskar Amaya came in on a two-out double by Rock Shoulders. That was the only scoring the Cougars claimed against the Bowling Green southpaw reliever. Following the RBI double, Molina retired the final seven batters he faced in his appearance.

The Hot Rods had an answer in the seventh to knock out Cougar RHP Pierce Johnson. After 6.2 shutout innings to open the game, Johnson allowed a bloop single off the bat of Luke Maile. Ryan Dunn followed with his first triple of the season to score Maile from first and put the Hot Rods within 4-1.

Bowling Green completed the comeback in its last at bat of regulation. After loading the bases with one out, Reginatto scored Maile with a single. Joey Rickard followed with a two-run single to left-center field to tie the contest at four runs apiece. Patrick Leonard came in first and Marty Gantt was right behind him, sliding into home plate for the game-tying score.

After scoreless action in the bottom of the ninth and the top of tenth, Kane County opened the home half of the tenth on a Chen double. Chen advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Amaya before Vogelbach hit a line drive over RHP Marcus Jensen to win the game for the Cougars.

The three-game series between the Hot Rods and the Cougars will continue on Thursday evening at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark in Geneva, IL. First pitch for game two is scheduled for 6:30 PM CDT. Bowling Green RHP Dylan Floro (2-0, 1.35) will face Kane County RHP Tayler Scott (1-1, 4.05).
