Myrtle Beach Thunderboltz News Release

FLORENCE, SC – The Pee Dee Pride announced today that the team's players will begin to take a more active role in Florence-area schools.

Each elementary school in Florence District 1 will be assigned one or two players, who will visit the school on a regular basis. The players will assist in various programs in their respective school.

"This program is a great benefit to our students because the players will work with them on various disciplines, such as math and reading, as well as reinforce safety tips for home and school," Director of Safe Schools for District One Jim Shaw said. "We appreciate the Pride taking this step to become more active in the schools."

"This adoption program is just another step in our initiative to get even more involved in the community," Pride Chief Operating Officer Debbie Hyler said. "Our staff and players spend a considerable amount of time visiting schools, hospitals, and other community programs, and this adoption program will fit right in with our existing visits."

The Pride return to action tomorrow night, hosting the Greenville Grrrowl with a special start time of 6:00 p.m.

On Saturday, November 13, the Pride host the Columbia Inferno at 7:30 p.m. on NASCAR Night, presented by Darlington Raceway. Prior to the game, the Budweiser Clydesdales will be in the civic center parking lot from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Fans can have their picture taken with the horses with a $1 donation to the Pride Youth Hockey Association. In addition, NASCAR Nextel Cup Series driver Ward Burton will be at the Lion's Den that night, and during the second intermission, the Pride will hold their eighth annual Wiener Dog Nationals.

Tickets for all remaining Pride home games are available at the Florence Civic Center Box Office, or through TicketMaster at (843) 679-9333 or www.ticketmaster.com.
