Forward Robert Busch Chooses Retirement

Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Just 3 games into his first North American professional season forward Robert Busch has chosen retirement over the rigors of an ECHL season. Busch played in all 3 games for the Salmon Kings collecting 1 point on 1 goal and 0 assists.

"This is a bit of a surprise to us," said Salmon King Coach and General Manager Bryan Maxwell. "Rob has been improving every single night and I am convinced that he would have eventually been an impact player in this league," he added.

Before coming to the Salmon Kings Busch played 8 seasons in Germany including the last 3 in the highly competitive Elite league. He initially spurned the Canadian hockey system when he moved to Germany at age 17 to play junior hockey and remain on the reserve roster of a professional team. At the conclusion of his junior career Busch then used his ancestry to remain in Germany as a non-import.

Busch, aged 30, has chosen to accept a position within the family business and will begin his next career at home in Vancouver, BC.

Coach Bryan Maxwell will initially fill Busch's position off the current roster but expects to quickly add another player to fill the roster.

The Victoria Salmon Kings will skate today at Wurtele Arena at CFB Esquimalt followed by Tuesday and Wednesday at Bear Mountain Arena. The Salmon Kings are in preparation for their next match-up, a two game series in Boise against the Idaho Steelheads, the defending Kelly Cup Champions on November 5 and 6, 2004.
