
Preview: Cougars Close Out Home-Stand Against Broncos

The Prince George Cougars wrap up their five game home-stand tonight against the Swift Current Broncos. Tonight marks the first time the Cougars and Broncos have met in the BC Northern Capital since November of 2019.
The Cougars saw their five-game win streak end on Saturday, October 7th, against the Wenatchee Wild falling 6-3. Ondrej Becher had two goals in the setback and Carlin Dezainde also added a single. Ty Young was charged with his first loss of the season, making 20 saves.
The Swift Current Broncos currently sport a 2-3-1-0 record entering tonight's game against the Cougars. The Broncos most recent contest came this past Friday night, falling 8-7 to the Medicine Hat Tigers in Swift Current.
TWO-TIME TERIK:
For the second consecutive week, Terik Parascak has once again been named the WHL's Rookie of the Week. The 17-year-old rookie collected six points (4-2-6) in four games last week, highlighted by his two goal performance in a come-from-behind 6-4 win over the Wenatchee Wild on Friday, October 6. "Again, I have to credit this to my teammates," humbly commented Parascak. "Our team is clicking right now and so is our line. It's pretty fun right now."
SPECIAL TEAMS HAVE BEEN SPECIAL:
The Prince George Cougars power-play has picked up where it left off in the 2022-2023 season when it had the second-highest conversion rate in the WHL (27.7%). Eight games into the regular season, Prince George leads the league in power-play numbers, going 17/41 (41.5%). On the other side, the Cougars penalty kill has also impressed. The Cougars sit 5th in the league (87%) on the kill and lead the league in short-handed goals with six. The Cougars scored eight total short-handed tallies in the 2022-23 season.
GETTIN DEZZY WITH IT:
Cougars forward Carlin Dezainde has been red hot to kick off the 2023-24 regular season. The Calgary, AB product enters tonight's game with an eight-game point streak. Dezainde owns 12 points (4-8-12) in his first eight games of the 2023-2024 campaign.
CZECH IT OUT:
No skater in the Western Hockey League has more points than forward Ondrej Becher. In his second WHL season, the Ostrava, CZE product has dominated in his first eight games, owning 19 points (7-12-19). Becher was selected 16th overall by Prince George in the 2022 CHL Import Draft. In 71 WHL games in his career, Becher owns 57 points (23-24-57).
RECORD WATCH:
Hudson Thornton is one power-play goal shy of setting the franchise record for most power-play goals among defensemen. Thornton is currently tied with Ethan Samson and alumnus Ty Wishart with 19 power-play markers. Thornton has two goals in six games to kick off the 2023-2024 season. The Winnipeg, MB is on pace to break multiple records among Cougar defenceman in franchise history including All-Time points (currently at 134, leader is Dan Hamhuis with 157), goals (currently 3rd all-time with 40, leader is Dustin Byfuglien with 47), and assists (currently tied for 4th all-time with 94, leader is Dan Hamhuis with 123).
