Swift Current Broncos News Release
Swift Current, Sask. - The Swift Current Broncos opened their B.C. road swing with a 2-1 loss to the Prince George Cougars on Wednesday night.
It was a back-and-forth game throughout with both teams getting some chances through two periods, but the game was tied at 0-0 after one, and 1-1 after two. Koehn Ziemmer scored for Prince George, while Josh Filmon got the Broncos on the board with a powerplay goal.
The Broncos seemed to have most of the momentum in the third period, but Ty Young was sensational for Prince George between the pipes, stopping 37 of 38, including all 18 in the third as the Broncos outshot the Cougars 18-9 in the third. Although, a powerplay goal for the Cougars on a redirection gave them a lead with 12 minutes to play.
"Definitely thought we deserved better," said Assistant Coach Taras McEwen. "We out chanced them quite a bit in the third period, had some really good looks, just need to finish when we can."
The Broncos fought right to the end, and had numerous high-end chances all the way until the final seconds in the third.
Reid Dyck was excellent on the other side of the ice for Swift Current, stopping 33 of 35 pucks that he saw and that was key for the Broncos to be able to quiet an offence that averaged more than six goals per game coming in.
"We were definitely happy with how Reid played," McEwen said. "I thought he played really steady throughout the whole game, made some real big saves, key saves in key moments. I thought we did a really good job of, we talked about limiting their transition and getting back on top of them and not giving them the odd man rushes, and I thought we did a good job of that."
The Broncos are now 2-4-1-0 on the year and will be in Langley on Friday to take on the Vancouver Giants.
