Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Ahead of their longest road trip of the season, the Brandon Wheat Kings have added a key piece of defensive depth, and a player with the potential to help the team both now and in the future.

The Wheat Kings are pleased to announce the acquisition of 2006-born right handed defenseman Seth Tansem from the Prince Albert Raiders in exchange for a 4th round pick in 2025. Tansem played 44 games last season and posted eight assists.

"We need some competition, and with only having six (defensemen) we needed some competition for guys to stay in the lineup," said Wheat Kings head coach and GM Marty Murray. "I think Seth is a piece of that. He's a smart, very heady player. One of the things we need to improve on is breaking pucks out and I think he has the ability to do that. We want to get the puck into our forwards' hands."

Tansem brings some major upside along with him. A second round pick by Prince Albert in 2021, he was the only 16-year-old on their defense last season. He was a star with RHA Kelowna at the U18 and U15 levels as well.

"The ceiling is really high," Murray said. "He has the ability to run a power play at some point in his Western Hockey League career. There's a lot to like about his game. He's not overly big in stature, he's pretty stocky, but his hockey smarts and ability to break pucks out will really help us."

Tansem will join the team on their road trip. The next game for the Wheat Kings is tonight in Lethbridge at 8:00 Central Time.
