Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings suffered a 7-0 loss on Wednesday night at Rogers Place at the hands of the Saskatoon Blades.
A spirited first period between the Oil Kings and Blades saw plenty of action in the opening frame with the two teams combining for 28 shots on goal but it would be the visitors with the only goals of the period.
Vaughn Watterodt scored the game's opening goal 6:53 in after sifting a point-shot through a maze of bodies in front of Edmonton goaltender Kolby Hay.
The Blades extended their lead with just 20 seconds left on the clock in the period after Tanner Molendyk blasted home a one-timer from the right point.
In the second period, the Blades took firm control of the game outshooting the Oil Kings 19-3 and building to a 5-0 lead.
Trevor Wong scored on a shorthanded breakaway at the 13:07 mark to make it a 3-0 lead and that was followed up by a power play goal from Brandon Lisowsky and a even-strength marker from William James, his first career WHL goal.
In the third period, the Blades were able to tack on a couple more goals getting one from Egor Sidorov in the opening two minutes and then a nightcap from Lukas Hansen with 3:34 left in the game.
