SWIFT CURRENT, SK - The Swift Current Broncos (9-24-1-2) picked up a pair of wins over the Regina Pats to kick off the weekend, and now look to complete the weekend sweep when they welcome the Seattle Thunderbirds (14-20-2-1) to the Innovation Credit Union iPlex for a 4:00 game.

Saturday the Broncos held on for a 5-4 shootout win after losing a 4-2 lead in the third period in Regina. Trailing 2-0 after the first, Eric Houk and Garrett Sambrook scored in the second period to tie the game heading into the third.

Kye Buchanan, his first career WHL goal. and Ethan Regnier scored in the third to give the Broncos a two-goal cushion, but Swift Current ran into penalty trouble in the second half of the period, giving up two power-play goals, one with just 1:22 to play, to send the game to overtime.

After failing to score on a power play of their own in overtime, the game went to a shootout. Carson Denomie was stopped before Ethan Regnier opened the scoring in round one.

Robbie Holmes and Sergei Alkhimov were turned aside in round two before Jan Cikhart missed the net, sealing the Broncos win. It was also the first win in a Broncos uniform for 20-year-old goaltender Reece Klassen.

The Thunderbirds are also playing a three-in-three weekend, opening it with an overtime win in Lethbridge Friday night. Saturday the Thunderbirds were in Medicine Hat, dropping an 8-5 game.

After taking an early lead in the second period, Seattle gave up five straight goals in the loss. Blake Lyda finished with 40 saves on 48 shots. The Broncos can expect to see the Thunderbirds number one goaltender Sunday afternoon, Philadelphia Flyers draft pick Roddy Ross.
