Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Regina, SK. - It's back to back shutouts for Jiri Patera and a season high win streak for the Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings.

Patera followed up Friday's 29-save performance against Prince Albert by turning aside 21 shots Sunday night as the Wheat Kings blanked the hometown Pats 5-0.

With the win, Brandon's fourth straight, the Wheat Kings improved to 19-17-1-2 on the season.

The shutout was Patera's third of the season and fourth of his WHL career. The 20-year old netminder has moved past Robert McVicar and into a tie with Jomar Cruz and Joe Caligiuri for ninth place on the club's all time list.

Patera, who was recognized as the WHL club's TELUS Player of the Month for December, has now gone over 138 consecutive minutes without giving up a goal.

The Wheat Kings jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead on powerplay goals by Luka Burzan and Braden Schneider and the visitors never looked back.

Burzan, with his second of the game and captain Connor Gutenberg added goals in the second, before Jonny Hooker rounded out the scoring in the third. 17-year old center Ridly Greig meanwhile added three assists for the winners.

"With Regina playing three in three this weekend, we knew that we wanted to jump on them early," says Brandon assistant coach Don MacGillivray. "I like how we played tonight...we took advantage of a couple of first period powerplay opportunities and we feel we got great contributions from everyone up and down the lineup."

The Wheat Kings, who play host to the Medicine Hat Tigers on Tuesday night, have now moved into sole possession of third place in the Eastern Division - four points back of the defending Champion Prince Albert Raiders, who play the first place ICE in Winnipeg Sunday night.

The Real Canadian Superstore presents another "2 for Tuesday" when the Tigers roll into town this week.

That means fans will receive a "free" ticket to the game with the purchase of another at regular price.

As well, Center Plate will present a number of Keystone concession specials on Tuesday night for those in attendance.

Tickets to Tuesday's game as well as this Friday's game against Red Deer go back on sale Monday morning at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling (204) 726-3555 or online at keystonecentre.com.
