
Power spanked by Crawdads

(Hickory, NC)- The W est Virginia Power dropped a 5-2 final against the Hickory Crawdads Friday evening at L.P. Frans Stadium. The Crawdads hit three solo home runs to take the first of this three game series with the Power.
After a one hour and 41 minute delayed start due to rain, the Power took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Jordan Luplow walked, stole second and scored on a double by Michael Suchy. The Crawdads, however, loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning and evened the score on a Luke Tendler sacrifice fly.
Hickory took the lead in the second inning on a solo home run by Carlos Arroyo off Austin Coley. The Crawdads added a solo home run in the fourth by Jonathan Meyer and in the sixth by Tendler to build a 4-1 advantage. Michael De Leon drove in Arroyo in the sixth to extend the lead to 5-1.
Taylor Gushue's fifth home run of the year, a solo home run in the eighth, closed the scoring.
Coley (13-6) was charge with the loss after allowing all five runs on ten hits over six innings. Austin Pettibone (3-4) earned the win with five innings of one-run, five-hit ball. Scott Williams pitched a perfect ninth for his seventh save.
Luplow and Gushue had two hits each and extended their hitting streaks to 12 and seven games, respectively. The Power went 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base, including leaving them loaded twice.
West Virginia and Hickory will play the second of this three-game set Saturday at 6:00 pm. Stephen Tarpley will start for the Power and will be opposed by the Crawdads' Brett Martin.
