Rome's Yean Carlos Gil pitched a complete-game four-hitter and the Braves scored two runs late in the game to take a 2-1 win over the Lexington Legends Friday night.
Gil didn't walk a batter and struck out four in improving his record to 2-5.
The Legends scored their only run in the second inning when Brandon Downes singled, moved to second on a ground out, stole third and scored on a single by Chase Vallot.
The 1-0 lead lasted until the seventh inning, as Lexington starter Matt Tenuta blanked the Braves on three hits through the first five and two-thirds innings before being relieved by Nick Green.
Rome's Joseph Daris led off the bottom of seventh with a single. He stole second base, moved to third on a single by Wigberto Nevarez and scored the tying run on a single by Erison Mendez.
In the bottom of the eighth, Leudys Baez reached base with two outs on a throwing error by shortstop Luis Valenzuela. Daris followed with a single, moving Baez to third, from where he scored the tie-breaking run on a ground-rule double by Nevarez.
Gil retired the Legends in order in the first, third, fifth, eighth and ninth innings. The Legends had hit .336 as a team over their previous 10 games and were coming off two consecutive 16-hit games at Charleston.
Green (0-1), who had joined the Legends earlier in the day after being transferred from Idaho Falls of the Pioneer League, was the losing pitcher. He allowed five hits and two runs, one unearned, in two and one-third innings.
The Legends and Braves will play a doubleheader Saturday in order to make up a game that was rained out in Rome July 1. The first of two seven-inning games will begin at 5 p.m.
