The West Virginia Power dropped the series finale 5-3 to the Greensboro Grasshoppers Thursday night at Appalachian Power Park. The Power held a 3-0 lead after the first inning, but could not tack on any additional run support against three Grasshoppers pitchers.

Aaron Baker started the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the first, driving in Evan Chambers from third to give West Virginia a 1-0 lead. Two pitches later, Rogelio Noris hit his second home run of the season, bringing in Jarek Cunningham in the process, to build the 3-0 advantage for Power starter Nathan Baker.

Greensboro plated a run against baker in the top of the second, and tied the game in the top of the fourth on three hits and one West Virginia error. The game remained tied until the top of the ninth inning, although each team had chances, with the Power leaving the bases loaded in the fourth and the Grasshoppers leaving them full in the eighth.

With one out in the ninth, Austin Markel walked, advanced to second on a base hit by Rand Smith, and scored the eventual winning run on a single by Chad Cregar. Markel then scored on a sacrifice fly to close out the scoring.

Brandon Holden (0-1) was charged with the loss, while Sandy Rosario (2-0) earned the win.

West Virginia hosts Kannapolis over the weekend at Appalachian Power Park. Game one of the four-game set is slated for Friday night at 7:05 pm.
