Bridgeport Islanders News Release
BRIDGEPORT, Conn (Nov. 28, 2010) ¬" Kevin Poulin made 40 saves for his second shutout of the season as the Bridgeport Sound Tigers blanked the Norfolk Admirals 3-0 at the Arena at Harbor Yard on Sunday. The Sound Tigers have recorded points in five straight games now and move to 10-11-1-1 with the win. Norfolk drops to 12-6-3-1.
For the fourth consecutive game, the Sound Tigers and their opponent finished the first period without scoring. Neither side had many chances in the opening frame, and the Sound Tigers had the only power play opportunity late in the period. Kevin Poulin continued his strong play in net and turned all 12 Norfolk shots aside as the two teams entered the locker room tied 0-0.
David Ullstrom would give the Sound Tigers the lead early in the second period. The rookie forward skated into Norfolk zone, stopped at the right wing circle and roofed the puck over Norfolk netminder Dustin Tokarski. It was Ullstrom's fifth goal of the season and the Sound Tigers had a 1-0 lead 3:53 into the second period. Poulin continued to impress between the pipes for the fourth consecutive start, and preserved the one-goal lead heading to the final period.
The Sound Tigers would clinch the win with two more goals in the third period. Bridgeport went up by two when Eric Castonguay deflected Chris Blight's centering feed past Tokarski in what was Castonguay's first game as a Sound Tiger after signing a PTO earlier in the day. Blight then sealed the deal with an empty net goal with 48 seconds remaining, and the Sound Tigers came away with an impressive 3-0 win over a Norfolk team who entered the game with a 9-3-2-0 road record. It was also the second the Sound Tigers defeated the Admirals this month following a 3-2 overtime win at the Arena at Harbor Yard on Nov. 13.
The Sound Tigers return to action next Friday when they travel to Springfield to take on the Falcons. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
