Admirals Shut out in Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - The Norfolk Admirals (12-6-3-1) sent 40 shots on goal but were unable to solve opposing goaltender Kevin Poulin as they lost to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (10-11-1-1), 3-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Arena at Harbor Yard. Norfolk fell to 2-1-0-0 through three legs of its six-game road trip, which continues on Friday night with a 7:00 p.m. puck drop against the Manchester Monarchs.

The Admirals, who were shut out for the first time in 2010-11, held a 40-27 advantage in shots on goal - including a 28-16 edge in the final two periods. Dustin Tokarski stopped 24 of 26 shots for Norfolk.

After a scoreless first period, the Sound Tigers took a 1-0 lead 3:53 into the second period while the teams skated four-on-four. David Ullstrom took the puck from his own end into the Norfolk zone along the right boards. Ullstrom cut across the right circle and sent a snap shot along the ice that eluded Admirals Tokarski.

Bridgeport doubled its lead 6:54 into the third period. Chris Blight sent a shot from the right faceoff circle that Eric Castonguay deflected past Tokarski for a 2-0 lead.

Blight sealed the victory for the Sound Tigers with an empty-net goal with 48 seconds remaining.

Dustin Tokarski (28 shots, 26 saves) was saddled with the loss. Kevin Poulin (40 shots, 40 saves) earned the shutout victory.

Norfolk was 0-2 on the power play. Bridgeport was 0-5.

NOTES ... Tonight's game was the first time in 2010-11 the Admirals were shut out and was just the fourth time this season they failed to score more than one goal in a game ...
