Springfield Falcons News Release

The Springfield Falcons lost to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins by a score of 4-2 on Sunday afternoon at the MassMutual Center. The Falcons held a 2-1 lead heading into the third period, but Wilkes-Barre scored three third period goals on their way to their league leading 17th win of the season.

The Falcons came out Sunday and battled hard against the AHL's top team in the Penguins. After falling behind 1-0 in the first period, Springfield used a pair of goals from Tomas Kubalik to take a 2-1 advantage through 40 minutes of play. Kubalik scored his first goal of the night at 17:33 of the first period on the power play, followed by his second marker of the contest at 11:59 of the middle period.

Just past the midway point in the third period, Wilkes-Barre used some quick scoring to erase their deficit. Nick Johnson tied the game at 2-2 when he redirected a Ryan Craig pass at 14:48 of the third period. The Penguins took a 3-2 advantage just 29-seconds later when Dustin Jeffrey found the back of the net at 15:17 of the final frame. Wilkes-Barre's Bryan Lerg added an empty net goal in the game's final minute sending the Penguins home with the win.

Kubalik's two goals for Springfield now moves him in a tie with Mike Blunden and Matt Calvert for the club lead in goals this year.
