Falcons Host Penguins Today

The Springfield Falcons and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins meet for the first and only time in Springfield this year. The two teams will conclude their season series on February 27 when Springfield visits Wilkes-Barre for a Sunday afternoon matinee.

The Falcons will be looking to rebound from a 5-2 setback suffered Saturday night against the Norfolk Admirals on home ice. Tomas Kubalik and Nick Tarnasky scored for the Falcons in the loss. Springfield will wrap up a stretch of seven games in the last 10 days on Sunday afternoon against Wilkes-Barre.

The Penguins were also at home on Saturday night as they defeated the Rochester Americans by a score of 4-3. Wilkes-Barre jumped out to a 3-0 first period lead on goals from Dustin Jeffrey, Jesse Boulerice and Eric Tangradi. In the end, it was Geoff Walker's third period goal that was the eventual game-winner. John Curry stopped 19 of 22 shots in getting the win between the pipes.

FALCONS PLAYER NOTES: Rookie Matt Calvert picked up one assist on Saturday and scored his ninth goal of the year on Friday giving him points in 10 of his last 12 games totaling seven goals and five assists in that span. Calvert is currently tied for third in the league in rookie scoring with nine goals and eight assists for 17 points in 22 games. He is tied for the Falcons team lead in goals.

Brent Regner scored his first goal of the year and added one assist on Wednesday, November 24 and followed that performance up with his second goal of the year Friday night earning the game's third star. Regner extended his scoring streak to three games on Saturday with an assist giving him two goals and two assists in his last three games. Regner was recently moved up to forward playing on a line with Nick Tarnasky and Jay Pandolfo.

Nick Tarnasky has three goals in his last four games and on Wednesday, November 24, he was the game's second star with one goal and one assist.

Tomas Kubalik scored his seventh goal of the year on Saturday giving him five goals in his last six games.

WILKES-BARRE PLAYER NOTES: Brett Sterling has three goals and three assists in his last six games..Dustin Jeffrey is on a three-game scoring streak collecting two goals and three assists for five points in that span. In his last five games, Jeffrey has three goals and four assists..Eric Tangradi has goals in back-to-back games entering Sunday's action.
