Milwaukee Admirals News Release
San Antonio, TX--Chris Mueller and Linus Klasen both scored a goal and an assist to lead the Milwaukee Admirals to a 5-3 win over West Division leading San Antonio Sunday at the AT&T Center.
Milwaukee finished the ten-game trip with a 5-3-0-2 mark. The team has recorded points in three straight games (2-0-0-1) after a season-high four game winless streak (0-3-0-1).
Goalie Jeremy Smith, making his third start of the season, earned his second AHL win with 33 saves.
The Admirals trailed 3-2 after the second period but tied the score at 11:40 of the third period. Gabriel Bourque received a long pass from Brett Palin in the middle of the San Antonio blue line. He streaked past defenseman Chris Summers before firing a wrist shot low past Rampage netminder Al Montoya for his second goal of the season. Palin and Roman Josi recorded the assists.
Klasen scored the winner with a power play goal, Milwaukee's third of the game, with 3:05 to play. Jon Blum's shot from the point bounced off Montoya's chest and Klasen, with just one hand on the stick, shoved the puck into the net for his team-high tenth goal of the year and sixth on the power play. Blum and Aaron Johnson notched the helpers.
The Rampage scored three times in the second period to erase a two-goal deficit. Petr Prucha scored at 4:14 to put the Rampage on the board. Prucha then fed a beautiful pass through the slot to Matt Watkins for a Watkins goal at 7:08. San Antonio took the lead when Mathieu Beaudoin jammed in a rebound at 18:22. Beaudoin's goal was scored with one second left on a Rampage power play.
Milwaukee got on the board first with the team's first power play goal since Nov. 7. Standing on the left post, Mueller banged a rebound of a Klasen shot past Montoya for his eighth goal of the season, first on the power play,at 15:54 of the first period. Klasen, who shot the puck from the left faceoff dot, recorded an assist as did defenseman Aaron Johnson. The power play goal snapped a 0-32 stretch on the power play for the Admirals which spanned the first nine games of the trip.
The Admirals scored its second power play goal of the game at 18:38 when Steve Begin lifted a backhander from the slot over Montoya's right shoulder. Blum recorded the lone assist. It was Begin's third goal of the season and first on the power play.
