Portland Winterhawks News Release

Hawks Happenings On The Ice:

The Hawks came out of the holiday break by winning four of five games against divisional opponents in eight days over the last week, to tighten the standings in the U.S. Division. Portland is currently just two points behind both Seattle and Spokane for second in the division, and only five points behind the first place Everett Silvertips. The five-point difference between Everett and Portland is the tightest division race in the WHL - each of the three other divisions has at least a 12-point cushion between first and fourth.

Winterhawks captain Dominic Turgeon scored twice last night to give him 19 goals on the season, a new career-high. Turgeon reached the mark this season in his 38th game, putting him well ahead of the pace he had last season when he scored 18 goals in 67 games. He's up to a team-high 41 points this season, already just two behind the career-high 43 he had last year.

Defenseman Caleb Jones registered an assist last night against Spokane to give him points in five consecutive games, for a total of seven points in that span. He's the team's highest-scoring defenseman with 31 points this season, and his recent hot streak has him rising up the league's leaderboards. Jones is tied for sixth in scoring among all WHL rookies, and tied for ninth in scoring among all league defensemen.
