(Harrisburg, PA) - RHP Luis Atilano (6-7) fired 7 strong innings and Harrisburg blasted two homers in a 6-2 win in the series finale over the Portland Sea Dogs (51-56) on Sunday afternoon at Metro Bank Park. The Sea Dogs finished the roadtrip at 2-5 (lost 3 of 4 in Reading and 2 of 3 in Harrisburg) and have not won a series in six tries against the Southern Division this season.
Atilano yielded only six hits, one run (unearned) without a walk or strikeout in his 18th start of the season. RHP Adrian Alaniz recorded the final four outs to earn his first professional save. RHP Blake Maxwell (3-7) retired 15 of the final 17 batters faced but suffered the loss for Portland. Maxwell yielded three hits, three runs (one earned) over 5 IP.
Harrisburg struck for 3 runs in the first inning off Maxwell. 2B Ofilio Castro blasted his fourth homer of the season to give the Senators a 1-0 lead. RF Leonard Davis reached on an error by 1B Lars Anderson and stole second base. 3B Joel Guzman was hit-by-a-pitch and LF Bill Rhinehart walked to load the bases. 1B Matt Whitney and DH Marvin Lowrance hit into run-scoring fielder's choices.
The Sea Dogs scored an unearned run off Atilano in the sixth inning. With one out, SS Yamaico Navarro reached on a shortstop's error, CF Ryan Kalish singled and 3B Jorge Jimenez reached on a fielder's choice, sending Navarro to third base. DH Jon Still followed with a run-scoring single to right field and improved his organizational-leading RBI total to 72nd.
RHP Ryne Miller relieved Maxwell in the sixth inning and yielded a single to Whitney and a 2-run homer to Lowrance, giving the Senators a 5-1 lead. The Sea Dogs scored their 2nd unearned run of the game in the eighth inning off the Senators' bullpen. Kalish led off with a double and scored on an error by the second baseman. In the eighth inning, LHP Tommy Hottovy relieved RHP Ryne Miller and surrendered a 2-out, run-scoring double to SS Freddie Bynum for the final run of the series.
Portland and the rest of the Eastern League have a schedule off-day on Monday. The Sea Dogs begin a 6-game homestand on Tuesday night at Hadlock Field against the Altoona Curve - game time is 7:00 PM.
