Connecticut Defenders News Release

NORWICH, CT- Sunday's weather looked shaky but there was nothing unsteady about the Defenders as they wrapped up a series sweep of division rival New Hampshire with an 8-3 victory. The sweep was the second in the last two homestands and seventh consecutive win at Dodd Stadium.

Connecticut used a five run fifth inning highlighted by a SS-Brandon Crawford two RBI inside the park HR to take the final lead of the game.

For the fourth consecutive game Connecticut grabbed the early lead loading the bases and plated 2B-Brock Bond on an RF-Eddy Martinez-Esteve double play ball.

The Fisher Cats blasted their way to a 1-1 tie in the fourth off the bat of LF-Adam Calderone and took their only lead of the game in sixth with a two RBI single by 3B-Scott Campbell.

The Defenders added insurance runs in the eighth on a C-Jackson Williams two RBI single and then reached into the closet to grab the broom for the sweep.

Defenders' starter RHP-Garrett Broshuis (3-2) picked up the win with 5.2 innings of work allowing three earned runs of six hits, walked one and struck out two. Fisher Cats' starter LHP-Luis Perez (7-9) took the loss allowing six earned runs off of ten hits, walked three and struck out a pair while falling to 1-4 against Connecticut on the season.

Connecticut will travel on the off day tomorrow before beginning a six game road-trip starting with the Akron Aeros (Indians) Tuesday night at 7:05pm. It is the much anticipated matchup of the two top teams in the Eastern League. Fans can catch all the action on the Defenders Flagship Station WICH 1310AM or online at ctdefenders.com.
