New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - The Rock Cats slugged three home runs, Ryan Mullins turned in an impressive start and Carlos Gutierrez came on in relief after a rain delay that lasted over two hours to fire three shutout innings as the Rock Cats downed Bowie, 6-2 on Sunday.

The Rock Cats got on the board in the second when Brian Dinkleman reached base on a one-out walk, stole second, and scored on Steve Singleton's double to center field. Matt Moses added a single to left that knocked in Singleton for a 2-0 advantage.

Mullins (7-10) retired the first eight of nine Bowie batters to hold the Bay Sox scoreless until Jonathan Tucker led off the fourth with a home run to left field to cut the lead in half. He allowed two hits and one walk as he retired 14 of the 17 batters he faced on the day. His day ended when heavy rain halted the game for two hours and 18 minutes.

In the sixth inning, Erik Lis and Dinkelman slugged back-to-back home runs. Moses added to the Rock Cats' power surge with a solo shot in the seventh. The Rock Cats added an insurance run in the eighth when Whit Robbins walked, Lis laced a double to right field, and Dinkelman was intentionally walked to load the bases before Luke Hughes' sacrifice fly to left scored Robbins.

Gutierrez took the mound for the ‘Cats after the delay and dazzled in three innings of relief. He struck out five - including striking out the side after issuing a leadoff walk in the eighth - while allowing just one hit.

Bowie starter Steve Johnson (0-1) allowed two runs on four hits in four innings in his first start with Bowie since being traded from the Dodgers.
