Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

Lucas Duda collected his second three hit game of the season, but the Akron Aeros defeated the Binghamton Mets 3-2 Sunday night at NYSEG Stadium to earn the sweep in the three game series. Ike Davis' 16-game hitting streak also came to an end with a 0-4 night.

Akron scored two runs in the first inning for the third straight game, due to Brad Holt's erratic command. Jose Constanza led off the game with a single and then Holt walked Jerad Head, Nick Weglarz and Carlos Santana. Santana's walk forced in Constanza and Beau Mills followed with a sacrifice fly, scoring Head and putting the Aeros in front 2-0.

Holt settled down though, pitching the next four innings scoreless. However, he ran into trouble in the sixth when he walked Mills and allowed a double to Matt McBride. John Drennen then drove in Mills with a sacrifice fly, extending the lead to 3-0.

Binghamton (40-66) cut into the lead in the seventh when Salvador Paniagua led off the frame with a single. Mark Kiger was then walked by Aeros reliever Steven Wright. Jonathan Malo followed with a sacrifice bunt, which advanced Paniagua and Kiger ahead a base. Emmanuel Garcia came through with a sacrifice fly to score Paniagua getting the B-Mets on the board. Jose Coronado's RBI double drove in Kiger and brought Binghamton within one run at 3-2.

However, Josh Judy shut down the B-Mets over the final two innings to pick up his fifth save in six chances.

Jeanmar Gomez worked 5.2 shutout innings, allowing four hits to pick up his ninth win with Akron (68-41). He also matched a season-high with eight strikeouts.

Holt lost for the fifth time this year. He worked six innings, allowing three runs on three hits with a season-high six walks.

Binghamton has a scheduled off day tomorrow and will return to action on Tuesday night at Harrisburg. The B-Mets will send LHP Eric Niesen (1-5, 7.36) to the mound and the Senators will toss RHP Brad Meyers (1-0, 2.08). The first pitch is slated for 7:00 and the radio broadcast on Newsradio 1290 WNBF begins at 6:45 with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show.
